Most Christian churches in the United States have well-developed ministry traditions of weekday Bible studies and other Christian formation activities in their church sanctuaries, halls and meeting rooms. On top of the horror of the murder of nine people by an assailant motivated by racial hatred, this tragedy was compounded by the fact that it was an attack on an African-American Christian community in their place of worship.

On Wednesday, June 24 'Mother Emanuel' -- as the church is known--plans to resume their weekday Bible study in Charleston. The Racial Reconciliation Commission invites you all to stand with them in their courage and faith with our own evening of Bible study and prayer focused on the work of racial reconciliation--work urgent and essential to our own Christian community, as it is for the nation as a whole.

We will have Bible Study and prayer and also time to discuss how we move forward in Louisiana and beyond in addressing racial division especially in the South.

Clergy & Parish Administrators: Please send announcement electronically to your church communities.

Everyone: Please circulate announcement among friends, family, acquaintances and the general public via all outlets available to you.

Thank you
