Children and Youth
“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a true blessing.”
Psalm 127:3
At St. George’s, we believe children are a sign of a healthy, growing church. They are welcome just as they are. Mother Stephanie calls us a “non-shushing church” because we don’t expect children to sit still and silent for an hour; we would prefer for them to be happy to be here! St. George’s is their spiritual home.
Upstairs during the service, we have a pray-ground area in the north transept near the altar, where babies and toddlers will find toys and books to enjoy. We also have a big kids’ area in the south transept near the choir, where they will find puzzles and coloring activities.
If parents prefer to drop off their children downstairs before the service, we have both a nursery and Sunday School offerings in the undercroft. Children join the congregation before the start of the Eucharist.
All children are welcome to stand around the altar during the Eucharist so that they can see and participate in the celebration.
Students second grade and up are invited to train to serve as acolytes. Please contact James Post if your child is interested.
Family Programming
There are many opportunities for young people and their families to be engaged in the life of St. George’s! The easiest way to meet other families is to stick around downstairs after the service, where we’re usually snacking and heading out to the playground.
Other intergenerational programming includes pumpkin painting for All Saints Day, advent wreath making, Easter egg hunting, and many other holiday celebrations throughout the year! Some of these events are held at St. George’s, and others are hosted in families’ homes. All are invited! Please share your email address with us so that we may add you to our family programming specific emails.
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Matthew 19:14
St. George’s Children’s Choir
The Saint George’s Children’s Choir is for children in Grades 1-5. Children engage in fun musical activities that help prepare them for a life-time of singing and servant leadership.
Rehearsals are held on Sundays from 11:45am-12:30pm (November–December) (March–April) in the Sanctuary. The choir sings on Sundays, 2-3 times a semester, and on Christmas Eve. The St. George’s Children’s Choir is directed by Saint George’s Choir member Carla Waterfield. You do not have to be a member of Saint George's to sing in the choir.
