We serve breakfast between 8:30 and 9:30 am every Sunday morning.
Our mission at St. George’s compels us to serve a hungry world. We are inspired by the words that Jesus spoke to his disciples when they wondered how he would feed the multitudes: “You give them something to eat.”
Vision
The Dragon Café feeds anyone who is hungry. In the beginning, Dragon Café was a ministry of food and fellowship that served disaster relief workers and volunteers after Hurricane Katrina (2004). Presently, the Café mostly feeds the marginalized and vulnerable community of New Orleans Uptown neighborhood. All are welcome to come and sit at our tables every Sunday for breakfast. On average, we serve about 70 hot meals every Sunday morning.
The Dragon Café is almost entirely funded by private donations like yours. We rarely receive grants. The Dragon Café is staffed by volunteers who work in rotating teams weekly. Our volunteers are committed to the mission and come from all walks of life. About half of our volunteers are St. George’s members and the rest are people who wish to make a difference in the food insecure sectors of our community.
The Dragon Café is about more than food. It’s about the comfort and relationships that are built around sharing a meal at a table. Not only between our guests but the volunteers working as a team together and their interactions with community members. Growing together as a community and relating with each other in a shared safe space is an experience for both our guests and our volunteers.
